When he was in seventh grade, Jeff's Mom told him he needed to start thinking about a college major. He promptly responded by doing what any suburban pre-teen boy growing up outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in the early 90s would do, he plopped himself down and turned on the television. After listening to legendary Pittsburgh Penguins play-by-play announcer Mike Lange entertain the audience with his whimsy and flair, following the drama of live coverage, and relishing the excitement that went with it, Jeff immediately decided that working in and around media was his calling.
He is "living the dream."
First and foremost, Jeff values his family, and lives with his beloved wife and four cherubs outside of Farmville.
Halliday has won awards for his work in both broadcast and instruction. During his time at CBS affiliate WDTV in Bridgeport, West Virginia, Halliday’s on-air accomplishments included receiving five state broadcasting awards, and was named the West Virginia Associated Press Broadcasters Association’s “Best Sportscaster” in 2005.
Having found a love for teaching during post-college work in China, he made a professional pivot and has been a media professor in Longwood University's Communication Studies department since 2007. At Longwood, he has earned the university's 2012 Student-Faculty Recognition Award, which is selected by a student committee and honors professional excellence and devoted service to students. In 2017, he was awarded with the William David Stuart Leadership and Service Award, presented annually to a faculty member who demonstrates outstanding leadership on campus and given in memory of the first faculty member in the department's history, Dr. Bill Stuart.
Jeff served as Communication Studies department chair from 2019-2025, and continues to primarily teach courses focused on media reporting, broadcast production, audio/video storytelling, and social media content creation. He serves as a co-adviser for the university's student-run campus media outlets, The Rotunda newspaper & WMLU-91.3 FM. Halliday also co-advises Longwood's Alpha Alpha Omicron chapter of Alpha Phi Omega, the national co-ed service fraternity.
A registered Scout since the age of 6, Jeff is an Eagle Scout and continues to serve the Scouting America program in Farmville, Virginia, previously serving as Scoutmaster, Troop Committee Chair, Cubmaster, Den Leader, & more.
An avid gamer, Jeff is an Assassin's Creed fanatic and has logged an embarrassing number of hours in College Football's Team Builder. He remains obsessed with Red Dead Redemption 2, Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Yotei, and, for some odd reason, Final Fantasy Tactics.
Halliday calls his corner office 'Prince Edward County's Most Pathetic Museum' as it features over 200 Funko Pop!s that highlight his myriad fandoms, along with dust-covered press credentials.
Halliday has a Master of Science degree in Broadcast Journalism from Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, and a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communication from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania.
